Oakdean Construction appointed TRC Contracts to design, supply and install over 150 fully glazed and factory finished easy clean timber sash windows for their £100m plus prestigious renovation project in London’s Old Queen Street.
With over 25 years’ experience in the manufacturing of bespoke heritage windows, heritage sash windows and heritage timber casement windows and a proven track record in providing “like for like” replacement windows for large scale historic window restoration and Grade II listed building window restoration projects, TRC Contracts was the logical choice.
This project involved the conversion of a 27,000 square foot office building at 29-35 Old Queen Street into 16 luxury three-bedroom apartments, one five-bedroom apartment and one one-bedroom penthouse. The newly refurbished property offers stunning views over St James’s Park and is close to some of London’s most famous landmarks, such as Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. The windows facing onto Old Queen Street and Lewisham Street let the light flood into large living spaces with generous ceiling heights of up to 4 metres. The deep bay windows into many of the drawing rooms underline the character of this majestic building and lend it a bright and airy ambience.
Our easy clean timber sash windows display traditional styling but they conceal clever tilt and slide functionality as both sashes also tilt inwards. This means that the external panes can be cleaned from inside the building, which is safer, easier and more cost effective. Our easy clean timber sash windows offer the same design versatility as our other sash windows, with choices of hardwood or softwood frames, RAL three coat spray applied factory finishes, and four glazing options (safety, obscured, acoustic and solar control). The windows are double glazed sash windows as standard, with triple glazing also available.
As you can imagine, acoustic performance in the heart of Westminster is really important and our windows offer superior noise insulation that completely shuts out the bustling street life below. Our easy clean sash windows also perform extremely well in meeting the highest thermal and weather containment targets. We have even met Passivhaus standards on other projects when required. In this development, air source heat pumps were used to meet BREEAM ‘Excellent’ standards for residential refurbished buildings. Our ground floor windows are supplied with an enhanced security option compliant to PAS24 and Secured By Design standards.
The design of our easy clean timber sash windows is perfect for this renovation as they complement both traditional and modern architectural styles and our team at TRC Contracts were delighted to be involved in such a prestigious and well-designed restoration.
