Campsbourne Primary School is a two-form entry primary school situated on the southern border of Alexandra Palace Park in Hornsey, London. Founded in 1890, the school has a long and proud history, with the Queen Anne style building falling within the Campsbourne Cottage Conservation Area, on the grounds of the picturesque Campsbourne Cottage Estate.
In recent years, the school has undergone major refurbishment, including the replacement of the building’s windows.
The project
The old windows at Campsbourne Primary School were in poor condition. They were draughty and inefficient, and most of them were covered in layers of old paint and stuck shut, which was causing problems with the school’s heating and cooling systems, and making the classrooms uncomfortable for students and staff.
TRC was appointed to replace the existing sashes with new, energy-efficient double glazed units following the visual design of the existing windows. The original frames were completely refurbished, while the stuck windows were restored to their original state using overhauling mechanisms and pulleys and replacing sash cords – a cost-effective solution that allowed the school to retain the character of the building while also improving the energy efficiency and functionality of the windows.
Replacing the windows at Campsbourne Primary School was completed in two phases in order to maintain regular operation at the school during construction. The first phase focused on the windows in the main school building’s Junior School, and involved refurbishing the original window frames while at the same time producing new window sashes, ready for installation as soon as the frame refurbishment was complete.
The second phase focused on replacing the windows in the Infant School building, replicating the refurbishment and production methods that had successfully been carried out in the Junior School during the first phase.
Installed by TRC’s experienced team of expert fitters, the new window sashes are made from high-quality materials and are draught-proof, leak-proof and energy-efficient. They have improved the comfort of the classrooms, reduced the school’s energy bills, and improved the appearance of the buildings.
The replacement of the windows at Campsbourne Primary School was completed successfully, and has improved the comfort, energy efficiency and appearance of the school building while preserving the aesthetics of the conservation area. TRC is proud to have been a part of this project, and is confident that the new windows will provide many years of service to the school.
“We are delighted with the new windows at Campsbourne Primary School. They have made a real difference to the comfort of the classrooms and have also reduced our energy bills. We would highly recommend TRC Contracts to anyone looking for a reliable and professional window refurbishment and installation company.”
