Herbrand Estate, located in the London Borough of Camden, is a historic residential development comprising Coram House, Dickens House, and Thackeray House. Laid out in 1885 by renowned architect George Godwin, the estate reflects the Victorian-era architectural style, characterised by traditional sash and casement windows, ornate brickwork, and classic proportions.
Over the years, the estate has remained an integral part of Camden’s urban landscape, providing housing while preserving its architectural heritage. TRC Contracts’ involvement in refurbishing its windows ensures that the estate continues to balance historic charm with modern performance standards.
The project
TRC Contracts designed and supplied custom-made timber sash and casement windows to meet the unique architectural requirements of Herbrand Estate. Carefully crafted to match the original style, proportions, glazing bar size, and overall patterns, the new spring balance sash and flush casement windows ensured the estate retained its historic character. With a consistent lead time throughout the project, TRC provided a reliable supply, enabling Mulalley & Camden Council to meet their construction deadlines without delays.
Improved security, energy efficiency, and minimal disruption
The project prioritised both security and energy efficiency, with all ground-floor and accessible sash windows and doors meeting PAS 24: 2016 certification for improved protection. To improve thermal performance, TRC ensured that all replacement windows achieved a U-value of 1.4, in line with EN ISO 10077-1:2006 standards.
As the flats remained fully occupied, TRC executed the window replacement process with minimal disruption, demonstrating a commitment to seamless installation and resident comfort.
